Zitat: | The news report from the Daily Mail deals with the turning point in the life of a boy, who was a criminal once. The boy John, was the youngest of five children. At home there were many problems for his family.
At his school he was known as always known as a vandal, until his 14th birthday. You can judge it from the fact that he was very good at making violent and criminal things.
Furthermore he could nor read or write properly. All these problems started at a primary school for emotionally disturbed pupils he attended. Later on they continued secondary school where he got special child guidance. "To attend school" heißt zur Schule gehen. The teachers said that he was a hopeless case. For that reason it seemed clear that he would become a juvenile delinquent, who had to be sent to prison, later on in his life. Schlag das Wort "juvenile delinquent" einmal nach!
The author David Lance described in his book "The Impossible Child" the method of hard bargaining. The methods described in this book (es geht ja um die Methoden) marked the tuning point in the life of John. After knowing what kind of behaviour was expected John was effectively put on probation for nine months:
That is why his work, attitude and behaviour was permanently watched by teachers. It seemed that John has now a better behaviour because he only stepped out of line two times. This was probably, because the teachers told him what he must and what he must not do. Five years later John has a stable job as a garage machanic.
To sum up, John could be very satisfied that his life did not end in prison.

Zitat: | In my opinion, "hard bargaining" can be a good way to deal with pupils like John at school. With regard to the case of John this method was absolutely effective. To my mind this method has good prospects for the future. Teachers have to work more effectively with those kind of problems. It seems to me that teachers work totally wrong with difficult cases. I think, if a children is violent it will be very hard for it to start a "normal life".
There ar surely cases where children get violent again after some years. However, I would prefer this way of dealing with pupils like John at school. Some time these children have so many social problems ( with parents, friends) that they get violent. "such" heißt "solche", hier passt aber besser: so große On the whole I would like to emphasize that these boys and girls must get a chance for making everything better in their lives and "tough talk" is one way to help them making everything better.
