[Einstieg:]
Hello, do you know what I am?
Today I will tell you something about the way of punk.

At first, I want to tell you what is not punk:
It is no fashion, no phase of rebellion against the parents, not the latest and coolest trend and not a definite lifestyle. That’s what many normal people think. But that’s wrong. Punk is an idea that shows you the way of life. And this is the idea: ‘Think yourself, do not take just what politics offers to you, create your own rules and live your own life.’

Now, the history of punk.
The band Sex Pistols (here you can see a picture of them) may have been important for Punk, but Punk with music and movement didn’t end with them. That’s wrong, because years later punk came again. It was so much more than music. For Punks who are in the scene punk is something different and bigger. It gives them the opportunity to exchange ideas. These are the values in life that connect all punks, no matter whether they have ever met.

But when and where was the punk movement's birthday? Either it was the New York of the late 60s or the British in 1975/76. Generally it is said that New Yorkers have invented the musical style and the British the political opinion and the colourful looks.
The Soviet psychologist Pavel Semenov said that the person shares his knowledge in two ways:
1. He looks of his environment and tries to connect the unknown in a sensible and meaningful way (that’s science); and
2. He reorganizes the known world in order to create something new (that’s art).
By this definition, Punk is an art form. Early punks put artistic movements, different looks, blurring between art (here you can see a picture of them) and everyday life and in this way provoked the people.

Let us look at punk. Just because someone looks different from the mainstream as I do today, it doesn’t mean that I am punk. The most important thing to find is yourself. Of course there are many symbols of the punks, (look at the pictures) for example: dyed hair, or one or more Irus. Piercings, studs, patches, leather jackets with pictures/sayings, tight jeans, net clothing and so on. Rebellious looks is a quality of punk (here you can see a picture of them). Anyone who becomes a punk has something against the whole system. The most important thing for punks is, taking responsibility themselves - with their own head and to have no prejudice about looks. Here I have two fashion and music magazines.

But what is Punk? There are different definitions. Here-I found two definitions. The First:
Punk is a youth fashion (here you can see a picture of them): "I'll tell you what punk is – people with freaky hairstyles that talk nonsense [...] and who understand little or nothing of life."
The Second:
Punk is a rebellion from the belly straight into changing things (here you can see a picture of them): "They have created their own music, their own lifestyle, their own community and culture ... They are building a movement based on love, and they do things in the hope that one day peace will come [...] They can create freedom. But it depends on all of us to let this happen to them." Usually, only the first is spread in the media. This is the least bad definition but the most popular image of punk.

The media. Surely everyone has already heard from us, that
“[...] Most of the punks all pumped full of drugs [...]"
No matter where any punk went or goes, he or she enjoys a poor reputation. For the mainstream it is easier to believe the media that violent punks wear strange clothes and strange hairstyles - but only if they are not busy terrorizing old ladies for money. Of course this is partly true, but they're not all punks like that. I think that was the distortion of the media which have made the most of the false images of punks. There are many other media about punks, so many that my presentation would take years. So I hope that you have to understand that I may not know about everything and that I can’t present everything.
Just one final remark I want to say to the media: There are a lot of people who do not look like punks, but they carry the ideas in themselves.

Now let's go to the fanzines, which go from the copier directly into the underground. Fanzines are the means of communication or the information of the punks that are self made by punks for punks. Many of us now think that those are magazines. That is half true, because fanzines exist only for a short time and are not available in stores. No matter how big or small fanzines are, they all convey the same: ideas. Fanzines give information as for example about: Punk-business, Punk-life and so on.

About Anarchism.
"Any kind of government is unnecessary. [...] We need nobody who tells us what we should do, who organizes our lives for us, harasses us with taxes and rules…”

Anarcho punks are oriented in these politics. That is to say, not all the punks have a good knowledge of anarchism. But they share most of this opinion. For example, they want: No official government or domination, but freedom and responsibility. Punks find governments superficial: These governments only have the function to appease the population, because it is a simple belief that somewhere good and honest politicians are sitting who want to achieve big and positive things. But what can an anarchy concept look like? Anarchy is the only form of political thought, not trying to control through violence, but against property. For example: Punks have been around the world labs for animal testing and destroying the property of the operator. These and many other activities are done against oppression. This doesn’t mean chaos, but to each other much more trust and respect.

Well, how did I get interested in this topic?
About three years ago a punk was here at school. She is my friend and now she lives on the street and doesn’t go to school here.
I have known various punks: some, to whom the music was very important, others to whom fashion was important, and others again to whom was politics important, and some to whom the community was important and some who believed that Punk is a real alternative to society and the kind of life we live. The biggest problem when I’m trying to explain Punk is that it isn’t easy to put it into one category. But I hope I was able to give a little insight and to inform you a little. Now, I'm done with my presentation. Thank you for listening.
