Eating disorders
Stars and models become slimmer and slimmer and have much succes. But how does it interfere with our society? Is only thin nice?Do we really choose skinny models like Lindsey Lohan & co ?
An eating disorder is always a serious illness, which must be covered. Such mental illnesses occure often with teenage girls. We must differ two types of eating disorders : anorexia and bulimia.Anorexic people are obssesed with being extremly thin, have a distorted body image(also believe that they are fat,but in reality they are extremly thin). They eat most of the time nothing and loose so a lot of weight in a very short time. They don´t take fright to use water-pills or laxatives to loose weight. We can recognize anorexic people by their extremly skinny body, their creaking bones, hormonal disorders or their hair loss. This is much more difficult by bulimic people: they do not loose so much weight, because they eat.But after the "binge-eating",where they eat amounts of high-calorie food in a very short time, they go to the toilet to vomit - a vicious circle.
There are so many reasons which can cause an eating disorder. The fact is that a lot of teenagers have wrong models. They look about the very /and too) thin stars and want to be like them.Another significant point is the low self-esteem of a lot young people. Is it important to support the teeanger to develop a strong self-confidence to stand above the skinny models.Other reasons like family conflicts, abuse, bullying or the desire to be accepted are of course also possible.
The most important point is the treatment of people with eating disorders.Often is this a difficult challenge, because the concerned persons have the opinion that they don´t have a problem, but this is not the reality. The aim of a therapy is that they learn to hace the control about their body.Firstly in nutritional counselling important to develop normal eating habits.Secondly is a psychotherapy necessary to become aware of underlying reasons. This is for example possible in special clinics,a therapeutic group or in a self-help-group. |
