Hallo zusammen. ich muss nächste Woche eine Englischpresentation in der Schule halten. Kann sich vielleicht jemand meinen Text mal anschauen?

By a dam, water is restrained in a reservoir at the highest possible level. The energy of motion of the outflowing water is then transferred to a water turbine or a water wheel, which allows the system to rotate with high torque. The history of the three Gorges dam
The Yangtzekiang is with 6380 kilometers the longest river of china. On its way to the East China Sea it flows through the Tibetan highlands and the “Red Basin” to the three gorges and then into the level of Yichang till it reaches Shanghai and the East China Sea. Its area of two million square kilometers contains the catchment area of one third of Chinas population.
The idea of a dam was first expressed by Sun Yat-Sen. Then in the 1980’s the dam became the key object in Deng Xiaopings policy because of energy shortages.
The main reason to build the dam was to influence the natural runoff and to preserve the residents from Floods. Alone in the last 15 years there were about six floods, where every time thousands of people were victims.
On my next sheet I will tell you something about the facts of the three gorges dam.
Power distribution
When finished, the project will have cost just 30billion US Dollars. It is estimated that the cost of construction will be recovered when the dam has generated 1000 terrawatthours of electricity. That will be the case in about 10 years of working.
The fully completed dam will contribute about 100 terrawatts of power per year.
For the transmission of the electrical energy which is generated by the Three Gorges dam, the technique of high-voltage direct current transmission is used. The bipolar high voltage direct current transmission of Three Gorges Guangdong is about 940km long, operates with a voltage of 500kV, and is designed to transfer a total of three gigawatts.
The Three Gorges Dam is the world’s largest hydroelectric power station by total capacity, which will be 22,500 MW. It will have 34 generators: 32 will be main generators, each with a capacity of 700 MW, and the other two will be plant power generators, each with capacity of 50 MW.

Pro and Contra
To achieve the maximum of energy there has to be a high level of water. Corresponding there is a conflict between the two main targets namely the energy generation on the one hand and the flood prevention on the other hand.
To maximize the energy generation, the reservoir should be filled up to the highest level of water, to protect the residents against flood it should be almost empty.
Against unusually strong floods can also a dam in this dimension do nothing.
Undisputed is the possibility to protect the environment from pollution by producing clear electricity through the dam.

To achieve the maximum amount of energy there has to be a high level of water. Furthermore, there is a controversiality on the energy generation and the prevention form flooding.
To increase the energy generation, the reservoir should be filled up to the highest level of water. However, the dam should be remaind at the lowest level in order to protect the residents from any unexpected overflow. Additionally, in case of extreme flodding, even such kind of huge dimensional dam remain useless.
