Hallo ich habe ein paar Fragen zu dem Buch und hoffe einer kennt dies und kann mir weiterhelfen.
Fragen:
1. At the beginning of the novel, Moira Davidson, drinks a lot of alcohol and is a real party girl, but she changes during the novel. How does she change, and why does she changeß
2. Dwight Towers spends a lot of his time with Moira Davidson, but she does not take her with him when he sails out to sink his submarine at the end of the story. Why does he not take her with him? Give reasons
3. Peter and Mary Holmes try to live their lives as through "there is going to be a next year". Mary makes plans for her garden, and they talk to each other as through life is going to go on. Why do they behave like that?
Antworten:
1. Peter and Mary Holmes gave her friend Moira Davidson the task to try to help Commander Dwight Towers forgot his past. All life in the north is dead after the nuclear explosion and so his family. But when she meets Towers, she realises that there is no help and all life will end, because the nuclear radation moves to Australia. Therefore moira does not care about the future any more and tries to find diversion by participating a secretorial course.
2. Dwight Towers tells Moira Davidson that he can't take her with him in the submarine, because it is a US submarine and it isn't permitted to take civilians on it. Moreover, it is his conviction that everyone has to die in their own way. So he has to drown with his crew.
Es muss noch ein weiterer wichtiger Grund geben
3. Above all Mary Holmes does not want to believe that she, her husband and their baby daughter have to die soon. In her despair she tries to ignore the reality and unconsciously tries to enjoy her last days. Peter Holmes, however, accepts the situation, faces it and tries to help Mary Holmes to understand the situation as well. In the end it helps his wife that she can die with her husband and daughter in their house.
