Meine Frage:
Hallo ihr Lieben!
Ich bereite gerade meine Bewerbung für ein Studium in den USA vor. Möchte im Wintersemester 2011 für ein Semester in Tennessee studieren. Habe jetzt einen letter of motivation verfasst. Wäre super, wenn ihr diesen mal überfliegen und ein kleines Feedback hinterlassen könntet. Bin mir nämlich überhaupt nicht sicher, was von einem hierbei verlangt wird und hab daher einfach mal drauf losgeschrieben. Hier kommt mein Werk... vielen Dank schonmal!!
Meine Ideen:
Dear Sir or Madam,
my name is xy and with this letter I would like to apply for the ISEP program as a non graduate student of English Studies. I have studied English as a major and History as a minor at the TU xy since October 2009. I am now in my 3rd semester and eventually, after finishing my master?s degree, I want to become a high school teacher of English and History.
Before I started studying I had been working as an Au Pair in South Carolina for one year. I have travelled through some Southern States of the US and I have seen historic scenes of the civil war and the civil rights movement. Here I discovered my interest in American History and Literature. As I have always been interested in the English language and have always loved to work with children, I have decided to study English and History at the TU Braunschweig.
Besides my studies I work in a small children academy. Here I give English lessons to a small group of children between sixth and eighth grade. I really enjoy working there since I can also improve my teaching skills.
During my studies I have acquired a basic knowledge of the English language system. I had a chance to deepen my skills in the linguistic structure of the English language, especially in morphology, syntax, semantics and phonology. In addition I gained a survey of English literature, where particularly the American literature appealed to me. This is why I chose to write a paper about the American Dream illustrated in Edward Albee?s works. (During my research for this paper I took notice of the inconsistency of the American culture which is also represented in its literature. Unfortunately, I did not have the chance to pore over that subject. -> weiß nicht, ob ich das einbringen soll )In my third and forth semester I will deepen my knowledge about American Literature by attending two classes about Literary and Cultural Studies of the US. Additionally I will take part in classes on the system and variability of English as well as classes about mediating languages and cultures. I?m sure that with this background knowledge I will be qualified for the ISEP exchange program.
In my fifth semester I want to study abroad at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, which is one of ISEP?s partner universities. The English Department of the University of Knoxville is one of the strongest and most prestigious in the USA. It offers a huge variety of classes about English Literature, Linguistics, Rhetoric, and Writing. ?Media Writing? is a class which focuses on how language is used persuasively and also offers a differential insight into grammar, style and structure of language. Another interesting class is ?American English?. Here I will have the opportunity to extend my knowledge of the language diversity of North America.
As I have mentioned before I have a particular interest in the American literature and I am seriously considering writing my bachelor thesis about one aspect of it. Consequently I am keen on acquiring more theoretical knowledge and practical skills in this area. Therefore, I want to attend Professor Michael A. Lofaro?s classes about American Literature. Professor Lofaro is an expert in this field and received many awards and honors for his studies. Participating in his lectures will be a great progress for me. ?Topics of Black Literature? is a course which really interests me and which will give me some inspiration and background knowledge about my bachelor thesis. After I will have come back to Germany, I will have gained profound knowledge of the American Literature. This will advance me with my bachelor thesis, which I will have to write in my 6th semester.
I assure you that, if you offer me a place in your program, I will work hard in order to fulfill your and my expectations.
Thank you very much for considering my application. I look forward to your positive response. |
