Well, concerning to Macbeth, in my oppinion Lady Macbeth is the stronger charakter up to the third act.
At first, when Macbeth gets the prophecy of the three witches, he doesn´t really beliefe in it. He has doubts. Bur when he became `Thane of Cawdor`he starts realizing, that the rest of the prediction also might be true (becoming next King of Scotland). But he still has remorses. Lady Macbeth is struggling for more power, so she influences Macbeth to murder Duncan to make the prophecy come true.
In the third act Macbeth orders two murderers to kill Banquo and his son Fleance, because the prediction said that Banquos heirs will be the Kings of Scotland after Macbeth. Macbeth doesn´t want that part of the prophecy to come true, so he wants Banquo and Fleance to be dead.
The same night he is having a feast with all of his generals and landlords. Here the ghost of the murdered Banquo appers and haunts him. Her wife tries to calm him down. This scene is the turning point of the play.
Macbeth is mentally deranged and his wife, which seemed to be so strong, also starts getting mad.
Near the end of the play stands the suicide of Lady Macbeth. She broke because off all the bad deesd (murder of King Duncan and Banquo and of Lady MacDuff and her child).
