Hi!
Danke schonmal!!!

also nen teil hab ich jetzt schonmal.

Today I want to tell you something about the new results of the newest report of the “Baker Commission“ from the 6th of Dezember 2006.
First of all a few general information to the Baker Commission:
- official name of the Baker(-Hamilton-) Commission: Iraq Study Group (ISG); it is composed of a group with 10 persons
- was appointed the first time on the 15th of March 2006 by the United State Congress in order to acquire/work out an independent appreciation of the situation in the Iraq and the US-led Iraq War and making policy recommendations for future strategies and actions
- members:
o led by co-chairs James Baker, a former Secretary of State (and a Republican), and
o Lee Hamiltion, a former U.S. Representative (and a Democrat)
o Furthermore there are 8 another specialists from the 2 parties; (in each case equal number):
o In additon to Baker, the panel´s Republican members were:
 Sandra Day O'Connor, former Supreme Court Justice
 Lawrence Eagleburger, former Secretary of State
 Edwin Meese III, former US Attorney General
 Alan K. Simpson, former U.S. Senator from Wyoming
o In additon to Hamilton, the panel´s Democratic members were:
 Vernon Jordan, Jr., business executive
 Leon E. Panetta, former White House Chief of Staff
 William J. Perry, , former US Secretary of Defense
 Charles S. Robb, Governor and U.S. Senator from Virginia
- activities:
o Domestic:
 The ISG met members of the U.S. national security team, along with President Bush, on November 13.[4] Before this announcement it was reported that Baker was in regular contact with the White House, especially with National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley and President Bush.[5]

o International:
 On 11 November 2006, it was announced that UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, who has supported President Bush in the Iraq war, was to give evidence to the ISG. A Downing Street spokesman said that Blair would give his submissions via video link on 14 November. It was believed at the time that the UK Prime Minister would outline his ideas on Iraq in a major foreign policy speech on Monday, 13 November

- was appointed the first time on the 15th of March 2006 by the United State Congress in order to acquire/work out an independent appreciation Der Begriff appreciation gefällt mir hier gar nicht, was willst du denn sagen? of the situation in the Iraq and the US-led Iraq War and making policy recommendations for future strategies and actions

o International:
 On 11 November 2006 Bei den Datumsangaben solltest du schon eine gewisse Konsequenz bei dem gewählten System durchhalten, it was announced that UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, who has supported President Bush in the Iraq war, was to give evidence Verstehe ich nicht. Beweise worüber denn? to the ISG. A Downing Street spokesman said that Blair would give his submissions via video link on 14 November. It was believed at the time that the UK Prime Minister would outline his ideas on Iraq in a major foreign policy speech on Monday, 13 November

hi, danke erstmal!

was appointed the first time on the 15th of March 2006 by the United State Congress in order to acquire/work out an independent appreciation
aussagen wollte:

- results:
o Iraq Study Group Report: published: 6th of Dezember 2006
o It was drawn up after nearly four years of war and the deaths of more than 2,900 American troops and at least 150,000 Iraqis.
o the panel made 79 recommendations for the US Government to follow.
o final report of the ISG: recommendations apply to Bush and the U.S. Congress; possibility: to change the policy in the Iraq;
 but: report is not committing
o Report stated, that US policy was not working and the ability of the United States to decide events was diminishing. Violence was "increasing in scope, complexity and lethality" and there was no "magic solution" or guarantee of success, said the 142-page report. The section with which the White House will have most difficulties is that regarding the need for a regional diplomatic initiative.
o Requests a fundamental radical chance of policy by Bush
 Suggestions/results:

http://www.heute.de/ZDFheute/inhalt/6/0,3672,4087590,00.html
http://www.heute.de/ZDFheute/inhalt/24/0,3672,4086776,00.html

 An "Iraq International Support Group" should be established made up of all countries bordering Iraq and the key regional states and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany, Japan and South Korea.
 As if that were not enough for a White House that has been tepid at best about multi-lateral diplomacy, the group then recommends that the US should "actively engage Iran and Syria in its diplomatic dialogue, without preconditions".
 The group says America's military mission should be changed from one of combat to training Iraqi forces. It recommended up to 20,000 US troops being "embedded" with Iraqi soldiers, a sharp rise from the 4,000 currently serving with Iraqi units, and envisaged American combat troops leaving Iraq within 16 months. Democrats were swift to describe the report as a vindication of their opposition to the war and said they would help Mr Bush to end it.
 The group said its 79 recommendations should be adopted as a whole and were not a shopping list from which the president could choose the most palatable options.
 Mr Bush has commissioned other studies of Iraq policy and has repeatedly sought to portray the Iraq Study Group, established by Congress, as presenting merely one of several sets of options.
 Its assessment is relentlessly negative. "Current US policy is not working," it states. Most Americans are "soured on the war", the cost of which is "not sustainable". US forces are stretched "nearly to the breaking point".
