Der Nachtrag kommt vielleicht etwas spät, aber vielleicht ist es für einige noch sehr hilfreich... Thumbs up!

Forrest Gump:

Film review

The funny drama “Forrest Gump” got six Academy awards and the famous actor Tom Hanks plays the title character.

A man named Forrest Gump sits at a bus stop and tells the people about his exciting, funny and unhappy life. He describes his childhood which he spends as a go-handicapped boy. His schoolmates often annoy Forrest because he hasn’t got friends and he doesn’t resist. He is always on the slow side and he has a very small intelligent quotient (75). But later he meets his early love Jenny and she’s his only contact person for a long time. Although he is substandard he finds his ability to run fast so he becomes an All-Star football player, a soldier in Vietnam, a war hero, a world champion ping-pong player and a millionaire.
Later he also becomes a successful shrimp-boat captain but he still yearns for the love of his life, who takes a quite different and much sadder way in life.

Everyone who likes lovestories, irony and dramatic art will love “Forrest Gump”. The film is one of a kind and a must for anyone.

Relationships:

Forrest-Jenny:

On the first day of school, Forrest meets Jenny on the school bus and she’s the only one who will lets Forrest sit down. She always wants to stay near by Forrst because her father abuses her. Jenny helps Forrest to learn how to read and to climb. Later they become as close as “peas and carrots”, and end up finishing school together. They have to break up because Forrest goes to the Army.
In Vietnam he often writes letters to Jenny to tell her what he is doing or how he thinks about her. Forrest meets her again when he makes a speech about the war in Vietnam. But she leaves him again because she wants to travel with his new friends and she says that they can’t be together by reason that they have very different lives. After Forrest becomes rich Jenny comes back to Greenbo to live with him. Forrest asks her to marry him, she says no but however they sleeps together. The next day Jenny leaves him again but later she gets a son,”Forrest Jr.” and also a terminal illness (probably AIDS). The three of them finally return to Greenbo, as a family.

Forrest-Mrs. Gump

Forrest’s mother is always thoughtful to Forrest and she still wants him to get a good ecucation just like everyone else. After screwing the local school’s principal, Forrest’s mother maks t possible for him to go to a public school. She always has a way of explaining things so that he can understand them. Every time his mother says to him that dying is a part of life and that life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get.

Forrest-Bubba

For the first time they meet each other on the bus to the Army camp. He is the only one who will let him sit down so they strike up a conversation. In Vietnam they want to start a shrimp business and to buy a shrimp cutter when they are back in the USA. But instead of that Bubba dies. Forrest keeps the promise and purchases a shrimp boat and he builds up a new business company named “Bubba-Gump Shrimp”. That’s why Forrest becomes rich and he gives a good deal to Bubba’s family.

Forrest-Lieutenant Dan Taylor

Lieutenant Dan is Forrest’s commanding officer but when Dan is wounded Forrest wants to rescue him. Dan wants to die in Vietnam to be a war hero but then Forrest acts against Dans wishes and saves his life. Thenceforward he is very mad at Forrest because he have to be a cripple without legs. He can’t take part in social life anymore so he is very frustrated, aggressive and ungrateful to Forrest. Later Lieutenant Dan overcomes himself and after the New Year’s Eve he sticks up for him that Forrest isn’t stupid and he has to admit to himself that he never thanked Forrest for saving his life. After that Lieutenant Dan wants to be Forrest’s first mate in the shrimping business and they get rich with their own company “Bubba-Gump Shrimp”.

Character development

Forrest:

Forrest Gump is a below-average kid with a small IQ. But he has another problem: his back is crooked and thus he must wear special braces on his feet that make it very hard fo him to walk. On the first day of school, she meets the young Jenny on the school bus and she is the only one who will let him sit down. One day, some kids end up picking on Forrest and that’s why he learns that he can run very fast. After graduation, Forrest is recruted by a ordinary Alabama college to be on their football team (because he can run fast). After college, Forrest doesn’t know what to do with himself, but eventually decides to join the Army. In the Army he meets his very best friend, Bubba, who wants to go into the family shrimp business when he gets out. For Forrest, the Army is a second home to him and he feels good there because he just has to stand still and to do what he is ordered to do. Later he and Bubba are sent to Vietnam. There Bubba dies and Forrest becomes wounded, he is shot in the buttocks. In the Army hospital, he learns how to play ping-pong and is surprised to find out that he is a natural in it. After that he gets the medal of honor and goes back in the USA. There he becomes a shrimping boat captain and gets rich. After Forrest’s mother dies and Jenny comes back to Forrest she sleeps with him but shortly after she leaves him again. Then Forrest decides to run from one ocean to the other without a particular reason. He even gets a following of people who run with him. But one day he stops running and then he receives a letter from Jenny to come to Georgia to visit her because she wants to tell Forrest that she has a terminal illness and a four year old son, “Forrest Jr”. At the end of the film Forrest marries Jenny but shortly after she dies.

Jenny:

Jenny has a bad childhood because her mother dies, her father is an alcoholic and he often abuses her. That’s why she always wants to stay near by Forrst. Later Jenny moves to her grandmother for a while and she goes to a girl’s college while Forrest goes on to play football. She always wants to be a famous singer like Joan Baez. She just wants to have an “empty stage with her guitar” and “her voice”.
But later she works for the Playboy-magazine and she act out in a show in Memphis where she ended up, singing songs, naked at a strip club. Shortly after Forrest goes the army, Jenny meets new friends and so she becomes a druged-up hippie. Sometimes she even wants to commit suicide. But later she comes back to Greenville after Forrest’s mother dies, to spend her time with Forrest. Jenny sleeps with him but the day after she leaves him again. Later on she writes a letter to him to come to Georgia to visit her because she wants to tell Forrest that she has a terminal illness and a four year old son, “Forrest Jr.” At the end of the film Jenny marries Forrest and dies in Greenbo.

Lieutenant Dan Taylor:

Lieutenant Dan is Forrest’s and Bubba’s commanding officer and his family fought and died in every American war so he wants to die in Vietnam. After a few days in Vietnam they are attacked and Lieutenant Dan is wounded so Forrest wants to rescue him. Dan wants to die there to be a war hero but then Forrest acts against Dans wishes and saves his life. Now he is a cripple without legs and he becomes an alcoholic. He can’t take part in social life anymore so he is very frustrated, aggressive and ungrateful to Forrest.
(“That's what all these cripples down at the VA talk about: Jesus this and Jesus that. They even had a priest come and talk to me. He said God is listening and if I found Jesus, I'd get to walk beside him in the kingdom of Heaven. Did you hear what I said? WALK beside him in the kingdom of Heaven! Well kiss my crippled ass. God is listening? What a crock of shit.”)
Later Lieutenant Dan overcomes himself and wants to be Forrest’s first mate in the shrimping business. Forrest becomes rich off of “Bubba-Gump Shrimp” and other investments with Dan’s help. Later he starts a business called Apple and gets married with a Vietnamese.

Bubba:

For the first time they meet each other on the bus to the Army camp. He is the only one who will let him sit down so they strike up a conversation and they become best friends. Bubba’s family earn their money catching and selling shrimps and they know everything there is to know about the shrimping businss. Later Bubba and Forrest are sent to Vietnam and together they are dreaming of a future in the shrimps fishing industry. They decide to start a shrimp business and to buy a shrimp cutter when they are back in the USA.

(Also ich hab's "einfach" mal alles auswendig gelernt, was sich dann aber auch schließlich in der Note der Arbeit rentiert hat Big Laugh )
