Hi Dieter,
Iīm not of your opinion concerning the concern of American or German voters about politics. But the main difference is that many Americans vote for the guy who concludes his speeches with "God bless you all!" more often.

Hi rappel
politics ... Good Point.
weīll i think that most of the American people has his own understanding of the politic in the USA.
Here in Germany you have many people who does not care about the politics in our Country.
But as i say everyone has his own mind over there.
Itīs not like everyone sayīs Yes to all Actions Mr. President (Bush) takes.
Many people was against the Irak War like here in Germany.

Most of the GIīs or Soldiers who fight for the USA what to fight.
Itīs there wish to go into the War.
They got a good life in the army.
The US Army spends more money in the fare ( provision, Verpflegung)
than the complete German Army costs.
Any more Questions?

And the Restrooms are in some other condition as we are used to.
And the water is full of chlorid but i think i told you that before, did i ?

Hi @ll
O Yes the Shops.
They are Great, really.
And the Parking Space in front of them
(The Outlet Stores outside of the City of Chicago).

But i was impressed of the wide Range of Shops in Downtown.
You see, there was an Fitness Store (like Karstadt Sport und Spiel)
in front of the Hard Rock Cafe.

The Fitness Store has 8 floors, and the jocke was that each floor has itīs big number (in different colours) in the Windows, you can read from the street. That was Gott

Iīve never been to a Fitness shop that had more Jeans then Karstadt in Hamburg.
I donīt think that i need to say something about the Fitness equipment :-).

So, most of the other stores are (in very big Buildings) which are not high but has a great size on the Ground.
You can walk in one direction for a very long time until you get to the end of the Shop LOL Hammer

But ther are little Shops too.
And even in these little Shops you always has the chance to get Money from a Change Maschine (Bankautomat).
There are so many Change Maschines in the City, i donīt want to count them:-)

Once i want to buy some Ciggares for my freinds back home.
But when i saw the Prices i remebered that ciggarrets are even much more expensive then hear in Germany about 7$ for a package.
And the Ciggares was much much more expensive.

Hmm so that all for now, but iīll enjoy answering any other Question.

Hello Dieter 5858,

I didn't wan t to sound like a weight-watching person Big Laugh .

I guess I wouldn't put on weight when staying over there Augenzwinkern , all I would eat would be steaks and fruit. But hear people talking about having gained 2 or 3 kilos within three weeks.... grübelnd

Oh yes, I forgot to ask you about all the shops , probably a wide range of them, correct? Augenzwinkern

Lucky you, riding in a stretch limousine, with champagne and all that luxury stuff besides the girls who accompanied you Big Laugh .

Kind regards

Hi Ulli
Yes u are right about the overweight children.
But i didnīt see that many fat People over there, strangely.

I even lose weight in my 2 weeks USA, but not much just 2 kg or something like that.

What else can i say about the City of Chicago...
Prime Time in my Holidays was probably the moment when we parked with our rented Strech Limosine in front of the Hard Rock Cafe and 10 young, beatifull girls stepped out of the car, with 4 boys.
I was one of the lucky one Big Laugh
O Yes, that was fun.

Hi Dieter,

Thanks a lot for your very detailed article. I guess I wouldn't like that stuff Big Laugh there and would put on weight very soon.

Sometimes I like white bread but not always and the way you describe chocolate , yuck. geschockt

But this kind of food, fast food, has already moved in to Germany and many people, most of them are children, are overweight and sick.
It's good for eating it once in a while but not aquire it as a custom.

That's all for now, I'll think about a new question Big Laugh Augenzwinkern

Kind regards

Hi Ulli

O Yes the food is very different in the USA.
A friend of mine said, if you want to buy cheap food,
youīre going to become fat. Augenzwinkern
Thatīs because the industrial food over there.
Itīs much more populare and there is a large amount of these cheap, not very healthy Products in the spuer Markets.
Milk is sold only in plastic canes of about 5 litres.
And there are only two different, the Cane with the red Hat (Fat Reduced, and the blue one (normal milk).
The chololate doesīnt taste good because the chololate must sustain(aushalten) the hot summer in America.
There is no "black Bred" in the USA, only White Bred, mostly used for Toasting.
And even the Toasted Bred is very "wishy washy"(labberig).

The Prices are most likely to those here in Germany.

What else...
O the Alcohol is restricted to the People who are 21 or more years old(Just like the night Clubs, bad for me, you have no access to those clubs not even a Jazz pub).
But some of the Waiters couldīnt read my drivers license and so i got my Beer with being 19 years old.
The Waiters got no own money they live from the Tip (Trinkgeld)you pay with youīre bil of the meal.

Any other Questions?

Hi Guys...
Jaja aber ich bin doch nur hier um etwas English zu lernen bzw. verbessern, weil man ja sonst so einrostet...

So what else can i say about the USA, hmm let me think...
Did i noticed that i was in the fastest Elevator in the World.
Itīs in the Hancock Center in Chicago Downtown.
The Elevator stops in the 1 Floor in the 95th Floor and 96th and 97th,
Thats all.

When you fly to the USA (and youīre a Smoker) make sure you buy a Big Pack of Cigarrets in the Plane, because one little Package Cigarrets cost about 7 $ over there.
Smoking is forbidden in every Restaurant and social location.

O, When youre over there rent a Strech Limosine, at leats for one Hour,
itīs really fun, we rented one for 1 hour for 200 $, thats not much money for 15 People... well that was Fun.

Any other Questions...

Hi Ben

Yes German Universities are indeed very big too.
BUt when youīre been to the USA you know what i mean.
There was a library across the street (from the college in Chicago).
The Builduing reminds me of a large Musuem, or something like that.
It was about 100m long to 50m wide and about 8 floors high.
I never seen a Library like that in Germany.

If you compare it to German schools, you are right, but German universities are usually bigger, too.

Hi Ben (from DS9)

Yes i learned much about how studying is in Chicago.
First of all i like to say something about the Size of Schools
we are talking about.
he Collage was in Downtown, so it was in the middle of a big City.
In Germany there is not enough Space to build the Big Buildings.
There were over 4000 Students in the Collage in Downtown
(They called it a little Collage)!!!
And somewhere outside of the City there are even bigger and more Colleges at one "Place" (Can you imagine a Collagecity?).

So how is Studying in the Collage, well itīs different.
You have to know that the Students are paying about 1000$
per Month to the Collage!!!
So everyone is doing the best he or she can do.
The Classes are little (about 12 People in one Group).
The teacher has one Assistent (One Student of the Group) doing
the Work for him on a Projektor to Show the rest of the Class what to do.
Thatīs good because you learn much when youīre doing the Teachers job, even if you make Mistakes.
The teacher uses many Examples to make the Students understand what heīs saying.

So enough for the Collage, now to the Life in the USA.
In the US you can spend Money in many different ways.
Itīs Fun when you drive in a "Big" Strech Limousine with 12 Friends of yours One HOur throug Downtown (really it is) :-)
Or when you visits the Restaurant in the Second highest Building of Chicago in the 96th Floor (Wow Great View, espacially at night).
You canīt do thing like that in Germany :-(

In some parts of the US is really differs from the live in Germany... but not everywhere.
For instant, I stayed 10 months in Oregon on the west coast on the border to California.
My first host family was very differnent from the german ...well standarts...
But that was typicall for the area I stayed in, it was a part where everyone was hunting deer and other wild animals for fun or for living...It was the most normal thing to do.
The other normal thing was, that every young men wanted to become "heavy equipment operater" a nice word for cutting trees.
Like 60% of the guys who made there high school diploma went to a heavy equipment operater school, 10% went to the military and maybe 30% went to college to learn something different.

My second family was just like an european family, no junk food, no hunting and overall clean (the other family I stayed with was disgusting).

The main difference between Europe and America is probably the school system and the patriotism (to the country, the football team, the school etc)

There is no real answer to the question if America differs from Europe, since everywhere in the US it is different.
