Meine Frage:
Hey Leute,
ich bewerbe mich demnächst für ein freiwilliges soziales Jahr in Afrika.
Dafür musste ich einen "Letter of Motivation" verfassen.
Leider ist mein formal English nicht unbedingt das Beste, bzw. ich bin mir öfter mal unsicher..
Es wäre toll, wenn ihr vielleicht mal drüberlesen könnt oder so;)

Meine Ideen:
Dear Sir or Madam,

My name is S.K. and I was born on January 15th, 1994 in Ludwigsburg, Germany. Together with my parents and my little brother I live in a small village called Benningen in South Germany.
In May of 2012 I will have finished my school career with the Abitur, the highest possible degree in Germany. I am writing with reference to the possibility of obtaining unique and social experiences within a voluntary social year of your organization AFS. I would like to apply for the Community Service Program starting in summer this year.

Since I was a little girl, I am dreaming of going to Africa after I will have finished school.
This country fascinates me in a special way. I am very interested in the culture of Africa and the traditions of its inhabitants. I have read a lot of books about Africa and I started to like this continent more and more. In general I love to travel and learn something about new cultures, different traditions and people. I saw a lot of places all over Europe and I loved it there, but I never had the chance to visit another continent.
Within my exchange experiences I was already given the opportunity to face the circumstances of living in a foreign country. So far I have lived with host families in England and in Poland. In this way I was able to gain cross-cultural competence. I have knowledge about solving communication problems and easily getting along in new unacquainted vicinities. I don?t have problems with conforming in different conditions and I am always open to new views and ways of thinking. I would describe myself as very tolerant and I like to prove myself in different situations.
Furthermore I have improved my English and now I have skills in fluently speaking and writing the language.

Another reason why I am eligible for a voluntary social year is that I have a lot of experiences with social work. I already absolved two practical courses in a retirement home. I like to work with other people and being among different persons. I am definitely a team player and I get along very well with others. For me it?s easy to work in a group, I am doing well in making compromises and I also accept and understand different opinions. But I also try to convince others from my own thoughts and opinions.
In addition I am very committed in working with children and young people. In my free time I work as a babysitter and often take care of two little girls, both are nine years old.
Also I am part of a Bible activity week for children, which takes place in my hometown every year. I am responsible for a group of about ten children between eight and ten years. My task is to teach the kids something about the different stories in the Bible in a fun and playful way. I am doing this for five years now.
Another regular thing I am part of is a holiday camp for young people between six and thirteen years, which is organized by my hometown Protestant church. The camp is four days in which we?re mostly outside in nature. My task is to look after the children while they are playing in the nearby forest or having fun on the playground. Also I am a contact person for the kids. They can come and speak with me, when they have a problem, when they are homesick or everything else.
Besides these regular activities, I often like to help in various other activities for children. For example, last year I helped managing a sports day, which was organized by my handball club.
Because of these experiences I was able to learn a lot about dealing with children and their feelings. I developed a great empathy during the last few years and I know how to handle different situations with children.

I think a voluntary social year is the right choice for me, because I really enjoy helping other people with my skills and my commitment.
I know that nobody can change the world, but everyone can make a difference and I would be happy if I could help people who need it.
A voluntary year would be ideal, to connect helping other people and learning some new and important things for my own life.
I am ready to give my whole energy, my whole knowledge and my whole engagement to this project and I hope that I could have made it clear how much I want to do this. I am absolutely sure that this is the right way for me.
