In this thread: http://www.englischboard.de/ptopic,13431.html#13431
I was told to please answer in German.
Since I'm new here, it was an honest mistake and I won't do it again, but it made me think about that rule and if it really is easier to chat about grammar in German than in English, only because the former is the language we're used to.
I actually try to avoid to speak or write German. I don't bother if someone doesn't answer me back in English, but I at least want to speak English especially when I am with others who want to practice.
I reckon a language can be learned in no-time, if it is repeatedly used and others are there to correct you.
So, is it really a problem, if I want to answer in English? |

To be honest, I don't think it to be neccessary to answer in German. I usually answer questions in German by using German myself.
The main aspect is: Is the person, who asked the question, able to understand the English answer? Does the same answer in English help him as much as in German? If it does, I don't see any reason, why you should be urged to speak German, if however the questioner is not proficient enough, it'd be better to answer in German.
So, I'd say you/we discuss the matter with Pablo and perhaps he has no problem if you answer in English, as long as he can answer in German.
Greetings

I've just had the funniest idea ever. I'll just write the same text in both languages.

Hi,
in my opinion it's easyer to talk about grammer questions in German. I think shouldn't be a problem and it is unnecessary to talk about things like that.
We have got special threads in which we are allowed to talk in English, but if somebody has a grammar question, it is easyer for him to understand that it in his own language.

As I pointed out, I do see the benefit of an English reply even to grammar questions, but I can understand that it might be less beneficial for people who still have problems reading complex English texts.
So, if you like an answer in German - at least in the grammar subforum - I believe you should get one.
However, I can only encourage everyone to join English discussions here. The small talk thread for example may also be used to discuss political, economic, etc. topics. It's up to you (sadly, at the moment, I am overwhelmed with work, so you won't be seeing me much)
Greetings
