Hi 
at the moment I am building a homepage in english, because the english language is such important that a German-speaking site wouldn't have such a huge spectrum like an english one.
Could you proof my english please and tell me what I made wrong and whats to upgrade in coorect english?

hi ya.
i had a look at the hp and have some statements to make. dont take it personal at all.
1. there shouldnt be a weather forecast in german if you want to be visited by people who do not speak german at all...
2. Freiburg i.Brsg. nobody knows where this is and what the abbreviation means....
3. do not excuse yourself for havent been ready with the page yet....better to write that the page is still under construction.
4. seminar is not a common english word
5. pupil....better to write student
i just had a quick look at the page but hopefully my comments will help you little bit. |

Hi,
I still got some other points to make:
1. I would say you could use the word "seminar" in English as it is used on the websites of British and American Universities in that context, too.
2. Whether the university is excellent or not, that is not part of its name, and thus should be left out. I mean you would not say "Harvard Excellence University" or something like that either.
3. Be careful with words like "mad" that sound too negative, and may change the meaning of what you really want to say. |

Yeah, this a huge problem but I don't know how to solve it. I found such services only in German and anglophone Services not for Freiburg. Germany, Eurpoe etc. But Wheather forecasts in anglophone especially for a German town are hard to find. Do you know eventually a site?

I think this is not a problem becaus I wrote Germany behind. I mean if somebody gives me a middle big city in the US I would probably don't know it also but the Germany behind should clear it.
hmmm, what would you think of the idea to link some words? The sentence like it is and Freiburg i.Brsg. as a hyperlink to the homepage of the town, or wikipedia?

I thought "student" is only for "Studenten". As I was allowd to visit the seminar I wasn't on the Uni.

I am not sure. I removed it in my introduction but I will keep it in my vita, because Freiburg is one of the "Elite Unis" in Germany and of course they made advertisment with this title. That was ment sarcastically. Do you mean people wouldn't see the humor in the sentense?

Zumindest im amerikanischen Sprachgebrauch bezieht sich "student" auch auf Schüler.
Mit Ironie etc. sollte man sehr sehr vorsichtig sein, wenn man eine Fremdsprache benutzt und umso mehr im Internet, wo es ja keine zusätzlichen Informationen wie Mimik gibt (sofern man keine Smileys benutzt), die das verdeutlichen können. Sonst kann es einfach schnell zu Missverständnissen kommen.
By the way: "English" schreibt man immer groß und "eventually" bedeutet nicht "eventuell" sondern "schließlich"  |

I suggest you only write "Freiburg" and link it to the Wikipedia entry, that will prevent that people get confused.

Of course you may mention that fact if you like, but I would put it in another sentence rather than in the university's name. |
