Have you ever pictured the typical American? If you should describe him with 5 adjectives, which one would you use?

The first thing that comes into my mind is “arrogant”. But I have to admit that I do not picture the typical American citizen. There are certain aspects of America’s global politic which upsets me all the time.
“Capitalistic”, is a good one. Their banking-system is really huge and intelligent, in fact to intelligent. It is said to be the mother-of-the capitalism itself.
“Trendy”: Most of the trends where originally invented in America. Whether it is sport or fashion or something else, they love it new and exciting. Take entertainment for instance, all the huge blockbusters are produced in the USA.
The typical American is also “overweighed”. I think this is a big problem for the entire health system of the nation.
“Dreamy”: In the sense of being able to become someone out of no one. Sure, their legal-system is confusing but it is also simpler than ours in Germany. It is much more easier to establish a new business out of nothing. I read ones that the thought of doing business is a fundamental part of America’s mentality. It is something they attach value to.

-------------------------

The school system of America differs from area to area. I will chose America’s 4-4-4 System to compare it with the German one.
America’s first grade, called elementary school, does not differ much from German’s “Grundschule”. The kids will be taken over from “Kindergarten” in the age of 6 years. At this stage they will be taught 4 years until the next Grade. One thing is worth to be mentioned. It is getting common that the German students are taught (get taught) in a second language at this Grade.
The next stage differs a lot between the two systems. In America all students skip to the “Middle School” in the age of 10 years. Which is followed by the “High School” from the age of 14 till 17 years. Those students savour more freedom in choosing subjects than the Germans.
The most contrary point happened here. America does not distinguish in mental capability of each student, which the German System does. Depending on your grades from the “Grundschule” you will be send in one of the three schools: “Hauptschule”(5 years), “Realschule”(6 years) or “Gymnasium”(8 years). This enables an adjusted education surrounding where each one can evolve the best.
The next education step in both systems would be the Collage or University, which do not differ much from each other.

The first thing that comes to my mind is “arrogant”. But I have to admit that I do not picture the typical American citizen. There are certain aspects of America’s global politics (oder evtl. "policy", wenn du konkrete Maßnahmen meinst) which upset (bezieht sich ja auf aspects) me all the time.
“Capitalistic”, is a good one. Their banking-system is really huge and intelligent, in fact too intelligent das solltest du imho noch erläutern, was du in dem Kontext mit "intelligent" meinst, ist für mich nicht ganz klar. It is said to be the mother of capitalism (ohne Artikel, es gibt ja nur einen Kapitalismus) itself.
“Trendy”: Most of the trends were/are originally invented in America. Whether it is sport or fashion or something else, they love it new and exciting. Take entertainment for instance, all the huge blockbusters are produced in the USA.

America’s first grade, called elementary school, does not differ much from Germany’s “Grundschule”. The kids will be taken over from “Kindergarten” at the age of 6 (years). At this stage they will be taught 4 years until the next Grade bezieht sich "grade" nicht immer auf eine Klassenstufe, z.B. "1. Klasse" etc.? . One thing is worth to be mentioned. It is getting common that German students are taught (get taught) in a second language at this Grade.
The next stage differs a lot between the two systems. In America all students skip to the “Middle School” at the age of 10 years. Which mit "Which" kannst du keinen Satz anfangen, setze also statt des Punktes ein Komma is followed by the “High School” from the age of 14 till 17 years. Those students savour more freedom in choosing subjects than the Germans.
The most contrary point happens here. America does not distinguish in mental capability of each student, which the German System does. Depending on your grades from the “Grundschule” you will be sent to one of the three schools: “Hauptschule”(5 years), “Realschule”(6 years) or “Gymnasium”(8 years). This enables an adjusted education surrounding where each one can evolve the best die Aussage ist ja unter Bildungspolitikern sehr umstritten. Da würde ich lieber eine Formulierung wie "this is supposed to..." wählen.
The next education step in both systems would be the College or University, which do not differ much from each other.

warum which ones und nicht which one (heißt which ones nicht wessen...welche)

Mit Grade hast du recht!

Was ist besser: "...that German students are taught / oder get taught in a second language" ?

Alles andere klingt komisch.

Warum nicht einfach "...that German students learn a second language"?

Alyssa
