Hi englischboard-team!
Dear Madam & Sir.
I study medicine. Momentarily I am in the third year at University of Rostock, Germany. Yeaning to improve my knowledge of foreign people and cultures as well as my social skills and my foreign languages, I have decided to do an elective abroad from 26.07. to 30.09.2008.
An elective period is an important part of the medical education at Universities in Germany intending to show students and, even more important, make students do clinical daily work and basical examinations hence he or she will gain a better understanding of diagnosis, treatment and handling a patient.
When I came to think about the country I want to get to know in particular, Spain has popped into my head immediately, the country of famous artists as Picasso, Dalí or José Carreras. And comes to that - Antonio Banderas and the youngest F1-champion ever Fernando Alonso. Under the flag of Spain the great explorer Columbus discovered America. So I’m sure there is a lot more for me to discover in your country, as the countryside consisting of mountain ranges like Sierra Nevada, rough rocky beaches at Santandar, woods of cork trees, stone pines and palm trees. Monumental buildings, such as the Cathedral of Seville, the fortress Alhambra or the unique roman Aqueduct of Segovia as well as modern facilities like the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao at the Atlantic Ocean are spread across the land. But among the variety and beauty of these different places or their characteristics in climate, especially the people of Spain seem to have something in common
attracting me – their fiery emotional, open-hearted character. Obviously these are some reasons having made my mind attracted to your country in the first place, though there has been already the desire to learn the spanish language for several years, too. One of my greater dreams deal with a visit to an university in the United States of America later during my studies and do a particular part of my education there. For that reason I would have an advantage of treating spanish speaking patients as it is the second most language.
Last but not least as a student of medicine I am eager to get to know your medical system and daily work in spanish hospitals. It is of great importance to me to experience the way you treat patients and how different experts, nurses and physicians, cooperate in order to heal. By comparison I will have a better view on the situation in my own country and what’s even more precious to me - new ideas and experiences helping me to become a better physician myself.
I am in the third year of my education. The theoretical first and second year of my studies emphasised the anatomy, physiology and biochemistry as well as psychology of the human being. With the beginning of October 2007 the education have become much more practical. I have already learned basical klinical examinations and how to record the medical history of patients at hospital. I am familiar with common diseases and common drugs. At the time of my elective at your clinic I will have finished a two month elective period in Germany at the Department of Internal Medicine in Rostock. Therefore I hope to be better prepared for the tasks awaiting me in Spain. Concerning my ability to speak the spanish language I will have gained basic knowlegde for I have never been before in a spanish speaking country, but I will have attended a intensive language course for three month. Spare time has often been used to further improve my lingual skills for some time by myself.
I’m good with people and good with work. I like the challenge of new situations. I easily fit in teams and I cope stressful circumstances well.
I see Internal Medicine as one crucial pillar of the basement of my medical education as a pillar is for a bridge. Having this idea of Internal Medicine as a more important dicipline I want to do the elective period at your Department of Internal Medicine. Hopefully I will learn a lot and support the staff wherever and whenever it is allowed and possible. I would be very pleased to set sail under your flag and ship out to discover new aspects of medicine for me.
Im vorraus vielen danke! |
