May I interrupt your dialogue?
JE NE SUIS PAS D'ACCORD (okay, that was French, but I do not have weekend yet).
The Frenchmen have school on Saturday -better: tests on Saturday.
That means that I have a four hours (=240 minutes -really four hours) long math test tommorrow. Do you call THAT weekend??? I do not...
Anyway, I hope I will succeed...
Good night

Math test was okay (I wrote twelve pages, could have done more).
Yeah. But one more month and I will be back in Germany. But appart from short weekends an long schooldays, it is quite nice here.

I think a pro of writing tests only on Saturdays is that you don't have to think about other lessons before or after it.

Well okay: Admin (Thomas/jama): why do we have to write the titles -is it a special decision for this board, or for all of them?
Well, the French are not ONLY writing tests on Saturday, but also all over the week. The long tests on Saturday (which are counted three times) are made to train the pupils for the day when they write their BAC.
On normal schools you have either school on Saturday, or on Wednesday, but not both, but since I am on a private school over here (everybody who has enough money sends their children to private schools, and the parents of my exchange student have enough money; but the fees are not comparable to those you are paying in Germany, over here it is much less expensive).
It is your choice: More weekend or better education...

Martin, it's very interesting for me to learn about the French school system. Slowly I do understand .
If I had the choice I'd prefer private schools because education is an important thing for the future life although pupils need their spare time.
What about the vacations, are they longer than here in Germany?
btw titles: this rule is valid in every forum

vacations:
Well, two weeks more in summer and two weeks more in February. Quite a lot, but they are working much longer every day (as already mentioned).
But an advantage: Most of the French children/young adults leave school with 16 or 17 - much earlier than here (but they begin earlier, too). This is perhaps the reason, why they are working harder.
btw. spare time: Well I think, if their teaching system was more efficient (in France, the teacher is talking in front of the class and that's it; with some exceptions perhaps) the French could have more spare time.
The new rule:
Well, I asked because I have never been informed, and I am presentator of the "geschichteboard"...

Yeah, more holidays and a faster school system what's better?
On the one hand it's faster to get out of school but on the other hand children must be in a real rush with the French school system. In my opinion they cannot enjoy all that hobbies as younger ones may here in Germany. A child needs that balance to hold on school stress.
On the other hand students "overhere" are almost 19 or 20 years old when they finally finish "Gymnasium". But still it isn't too old to start working life or something else.
Boys and girls who leave "Hauptschule" aged 15 are still too young to start working without any expierence.
Everybody has got their own point of view.

I think the bigger problem in Germany is that, if students study for example medecin, they cannot start working life before they are 28 and THAT is really late.
In my opinion, the French system is not bad, but is so horribly unefficient. I think students in Germany are learning more, because they get a chance to participate in the lessons, but in Germany, the number of tests in subjects like history is too low so that many students do not see any sense in learning for this subject...
btw: "geschichteboard" I did not see you there (but it is not very difficult to see ME there), but I saw you on "deutschboard" -and you did not see me.
