Hey guys!
I have a question.
What do you think about the United States of Amerika?
Maybe we can discuss about this question, because I would like to improve my English.

First of all, I hope you mean "guys" (umgangssprachlich ="Leute") and not "gays" (Schwule) Augenzwinkern
Then I think you ought to tell us what you think about the USA and which topic you want to discuss particularly (e.g. politics or society). Have you ever been to the US? What kind of experience did you make? Or if you haven't been to the States, yet. Would you like to go there once, why and where?

Upps...I'm sorry.Of course I mean ''guys''.It was a typing mistake.First of all I'm very happy about the answer. No, I haven't been to the States before, but I would like to travel there once. Why?Everybody speaks about the USA and I have to see what is so special in the USA.Moreover the people have prejudices and I want to know if they're true. For exemple the Germans and maybe other nations have got an typical picture of an American person when they hear ''USA''.In their opinion all Americans are chubby, have got a cowboy hat and are very conservative and patriotic. But in my view that are cliches. But meanwhile the U.S has so more to offer as patriotic cowboys with western music. For example a beautiful and varietiely(sorry I forgot the adjektv for variety LOL Hammer ) nature, or the entertainment branche(Hollywood, international music). Finally, I would like to say that you can't generalize the Americans.

I don't think that there are so many people who think that Americans look like Cowboys. Nevertheless there are some clichées indeed, for instance that Americans are very religious and even prudish.
I've been to the States twice, once in Oregon at the west coast and once in New York City. Many people over there are pretty conservative, but not all of them obviously. In Oregon I was as an exchange student in fall 2004 a couple of weeks before the presidential elections. My host family supported John Kerry. However, I talked with some Bush voters as well. I think that especially more intellectual people were ashamed of him, but "the masses" seemed to like Bush's pretending to be a strong man who is willing to fight for the American dream and against its enemies, i.e. the terrorists.
The US are definitely worth visiting, because the "American Way of Life" is different from the European one. I'd say everything is bigger over there. The landscape in Oregon was amazing, too. Everybody ought to have been to New York once. Some people say it is the capital of the world, and I think those are somewhat right. There is a very special atmosphere in Manhattan which you cannot actually describe, but which you must have experienced.

Wow,I'm impressed. An exchange would bring me further in my English, but I haven't a possibility, because I'm in the 12 grade and I have to learn for my Abitur.I think it's very important to speak English very well. But I have to work on it.
So back to Amercia. It' s that right that the Americans are very self-proud like they ,what does ,,wirken'' mean in English?,at other people?
I've got a friend who lives in America, but she's really from Germany.
She prefers Germany.I don't know, but she doesn't like to live there.
But what would you think about America if you weren't there?
I'm sorry for my English. LOL Hammer

Hey Hey..
first of all I have to say that America rocks Big Laugh

I spent a whole year there and I LOVED it! Of course there are a lot of clichées but you know what, they are just normal people like you and me. It's just that they are not European and don't think like Europeans so they think a little different about certain things then we do. What I'm trying to say is that they seems to us that they are a little "different" but they just don't life that European way of live.
I'm just a little confused myself now cause I don't really know what my point is. lol Kinda forgot what I was talking about Big Laugh

Do you mean with "not-European-like" that they've banished davinism to the Teufel and don't teach it at school, the constant racism or the prudery of the older gernerations?
(just some facts you should notice ;P )

Well let's stick to the truth: Darwinism is still teached at the vast majority of American schools and racism is not such a large problem everywhere in the U.S. Besides, we do have a lot of racism in Europe, too, so let's not pretend we're always right.
