Hier ausformuliert:
I believe, being a questioner, even and especially to whom are called authorities, is a virgin part of thinking. It not just shows your employer or professor that you are really interested in the topic but it also will give you a very elementary understanding of things. You won't just know that things are as they are, you will additionally grasp why they are as they are. Furthermore, only if you know how, and more importantly, why, they did something you can sober mindedly check the claims. You can explore the foundations yourself and build up your own opinion. Changes in basic axioms and assumptions are fairly rare - but when they occur, they change almost everything. As an example in the field of medicine: In the early medieval era, people thought illness is caused by deamons, witches or angry gods. After that, humorism and homeopathy became very popular. Currently, we have a medicine that still parts the world in good (the medication) and evil (the illness causing viruses and worms) as it has been hundreds of years ago. Dr. Hamer, however, discoverer of the "5 biological natural laws" has a different view: Every little thing in the world, even an "evil" virus, is useful. The thesis isn't yet very popular but most likely revolutionary. If he hadn't questioned the authorities in his field, he would have never discovered this idea.
We must not forget, leaders are also just humans, which means that chances are they are making mistakes. Yet the latin phrase "errare humanum est" should be kept in mind. Nobody ever can have everything in mind at the same time so it's likely to leave something out.
Often, the authoritie's idea will work, no question; But is it the real, optimal solution? We can find an interesting sample in history regarding to this concept: Before Johann Keppler, people assumed the earth would be the universe's center - this thesis is also called geocentrism. Taking this information as is lead to very knotty physical formulas, including almost hundreds of special cases and exceptions to determine planet orbits. Seeing this, many times in life solutions will work, but they won't work good.
Even this standalone point taken into account is probably the most important reason to question the claims of authorities.
