The German Red Cross
It all began in Solferino, a little town in
Northern Italy
.
In 1959,
there was a war
between
Italy, France and Austria.
In this war, 40 000 Soldiers were injured every night.
The few ambulances could not offer much help
because they
did not know
what they
had
to do and were
poorly
organised. Many of the Soldiers
died
.
Henri
Dunant, a
man
who
had been watching
the war, was disappointed about the
ambulances
. The war was so terrible for him
that
he founded the
Red Cross
.
