Dear ... ....02.2011
I want to write you just some lines that you know I am alive. My holiday here in London is very great. I have seen many sights and the weather is good. Today the sun shines and I want to go to the Tower of London. There I will see the Crown Jewels and the Ravens. At the Tower I can learn a lot about its history. Did you know that they began to build it in the year 1078 and that they used it as a state prison?
Yesterday I have visited the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. The Houses of Parliament
were
built between 1840 and 1870.
It´s interesting that radical Catholics wanted to blow up the Houses of Parliament. The bell, named Big Ben, wheigs 13800 kg. Did you know that?
On Thursday I have seen the biggest Anglican church, Westminster Abbey. It was
built
between the 13th and 16th century and it is the most visited church in Britain. There is a school, namend Westminster School.
Wednesday was exciting
for
me. I have visited Buckingham Palace. It has 775 rooms and Duke of Buckingham built it in the 18th century. At 11.30 am the
Guards
change. It was very interesting to see how the
Guards
move and listen to the music.
On Tuesday I have visited Trafalgar Square and Nelson´s Column. This column is five
metres
high.
Trafalgar Square was
built
from 1758 to 1805 and was designed by John Nash. It is a place for
street
protests.
These
are the sights that I have visited. I hope you have
enjoyed
it. Unfortunately I must come back tomorrow. But I am looking forward to see you again.
Best
wishes
